A website is created by stringing many pieces of content together through the use of links to provide information and resources. Content Types in Drupal provide a simple way to create content through the use of fields in order to deliver standardized content.
In Drupal, a content type is a definition of the structure and behavior of a specific type of content. Content types are used to define the fields, settings, and other characteristics of different types of content that can be created and managed on a Drupal website.
For example, you might have a content type for articles, a content type for pages, and a content type for profiles. Each content type has its own set of fields and settings, which determine the data that can be stored and how it is displayed.
The Article content type is generally used for information that is updated less frequently and often cross-reference and categorized, such as news items or resources. By default, Articles are sorted with the most recent post at the top.
The Facility Hours content type is generally used for building or office hours of operation, either in general or specific dates and times. Facility Hours are displayed in list format, as either Today or the Next 7 Days.
The Page content type is generally used for static content that can, but are not required to, be linked into the main navigation menu. This is one of the most "basic" content types and can be very flexible.
The Profile content type is generally used for providing information about an individual and/or contact information. This can include students, staff, faculty, or individual profiles of importance, like departments or offices.
The Spotlight content type is generally used to highlight specific information. This could be recognition of a specific individual, an upcoming event, or to highlight a program.
