In Drupal and other content management systems, content can be either published or unpublished. Published content is content that is available to the public, while unpublished content is not visible to the public and is only accessible to users with the appropriate permissions.
It is important to note that unpublished content is not deleted or removed from the system, it is simply hidden from public view. As an editor, you will still see unpublished content where it would show if published. It will be faded and have a large message above the section stating it is unpublished. This means that you can easily change the status of unpublished content to published at any time, making it visible to the public again.
This is incredibly useful for content that needs to be displayed for a short time during the year and not be available the rest of the year. This can also be scheduled by following the Schedule Content instructions.
To publish or unpublish content in Drupal, you will need to have the appropriate permissions to edit and publish content. If you have these permissions, you can publish or unpublish content by following these steps:
- Log in to your Drupal site as an administrator or content editor.
- Click on the Content link in the main menu to view the list of content items on your site.
- Find the content item you want to publish or unpublish in the list, and click the Edit link next to it. This will take you to the Edit content page for the item.
- Scroll down to the bottom section of the page above the Save and “Preview” buttons.
- Select or unselect the Published checkbox to publish or unpublish the content.
- Click the Save button to save the changes. The content will now be published or unpublished, depending on the option you selected.
You can also use the Bulk operations dropdown menu on the content overview screen to publish or unpublish multiple content items at once. Simply select the content items you want to publish or unpublish, choose the appropriate action from the dropdown menu, and then click the Apply button.
